There’s one piece of jewelry that my best friend Nicole never takes off. It’s not an heirloom piece or even a gift from her boyfriend. She wears a silver medical id bracelet that lets everyone know, in case of emergency, that she has epilepsy.
Nicole first started having seizures her senior year of high school. Because of other medical conditions she has, finding the right medication to manage her seizures has been a continuing struggle. Though she has greater control than she used to, she still has grand mal seizures a couple times a year. She wears her epilepsy bracelet just in case she has a grand mal seizure in a public or unfamiliar place. The information is valuable to EMTs and other medical professionals in emergency situations.
